Enfield Council declares a climate emergency and prohibits meat

The borough, about 16 kilometers north of Central London, will serve only vegan or vegetarian food at its catered events starting in December 2020. The local authorities feel the urgency of taking action to mitigate the climate crisis and plan on reaching carbon neutrality by 2030. Another London borough, Lewisham, has also voted in favor of requiring food served on its premises to be plant-based. Additionally, the city of Leeds, in West Yorkshire, has pledged to offer more vegan meals and have meat-free days twice a week in 182 primary schools.
