I love a good tea brewing session with friends. Here’s a tip on making health-giving blueberry leaf tea. Dried blueberry leaves are packed full of antioxidants, which provide a range of health benefits including reducing fat levels and potentially protecting against hepatitis C. Blueberry leaves are rich in polyphenols and contain high antioxidant levels regardless of whether the leaves originate from commercial or wild blueberry bushes. Both the blueberry tea leaves and berries comprise of anthocyanins, which are antioxidants that are seen in dark-colored fruits like blueberries. One study found that elevated anthocyanin intake resulted in a reduced risk of type-2 diabetes in both men and women. To brew this tea, steep two teaspoons of dried leaves per cup (240 milliliters or 8 ounces) of water for thirty minutes. The temperature of the water should be almost boiling. Blueberry tea can be consumed hot or cold and has a slight grassy taste. Dried blueberries are sometimes added for a sweeter taste and dark purple color.
