As we age, throat muscles weaken, which makes the airway more prone to collapse, potentially leading to snoring. Maintaining a healthy weight reduces snoring since extra weight surrounding the neck contributes to airway obstruction. Even a small weight loss can make a big difference. Additionally, sleeping on your side instead of your back can prevent your tongue from sliding backwards and blocking the airway, and staying well-hydrated prevents thicker mucus formation – a contributor to snoring. Managing your allergies to minimize nasal congestion is also a smart move. Utilize air purifiers to reduce exposure to allergens and take antihistamines to help improve airflow.
